ouss!..

Ironic that I be behind the eight ball on this one…But long time idol Will Sweeney has brought out a new series of t-shirts for this balmy summer season (northern hemisphere!) and they have been out in the wilderness of Japan for almost 3 months! According to his news page (which was only updated yesterday?) they are available and waiting in anticipation to wrap themselves around warm bodies! Eww. Get ’em while the’re hot.

updates…

gemboseijin

Recently I was asked to provide the Melbourne based company PanelPop with some artwork for their business. They specialize in a pretty unique printing method which can transfer art onto stone blocks. They are framed in recycled wood and make a very handsome addition to the living room wall. According to the website they are fairly resistant to weather too, so they can be hung outside as well. Anyway, Panelpop were particularly interested in my kaijyu (monster) series, so I decided to revisit some old material and redo a few (in HD!) especially. There are even a few new designs floating about, so keep an eye on the character gallery over the next week. Cheers.

flickr friday…

Continuing the now well established tradition of Flickr-friday ( no.2) I’m posting about Hsu Meng today. Looking at your new shoes is a great past-time, and one worth sharing; Hsu Meng has some great colour and composition going on in her series of paintings on the very same topic, so check it out.

If you’re in the area…

Nara Yoshitomo’s iconic images of sullen and brooding childlike characters have been up-scaled and recreated in ceramic! Check out his latest works at Tomio Koyama Gallery in Tokyo, or have a geezer at his ceramic sculptures online. The show is on till June 19th so if you happen to be wandering about pop in. For more info there is a little write-up on the Japan Times website too.  (photo. KIOKU Keizo for Tomio Koyama Gallery)

Dan McPharlin…

Maybe a few months ago I posted a link to a sci-fi art exhibition in London called LIFE IN 2050? Well, sadly, the exhibition is over, and I never had a chance to see it in person (actually there was little chance that was going to happen anyway)… But, looking for the website again recently, I found that a lot of the works made for the show have been uploaded for sale. One artist that caught my attention, instantly, was Dan McPharlin. It’s easy to see why, and for your reference, here is a link to his portfolio and flickr. Enjoy!

showchicken…

Being Friday, I have designated it Flickr day. So, to celebrate/inaugurate this new day I have invented for my news reel, I have chosen to share the enormous talent of Showchicken. Personally, birds have not crossed my mind as potential material for art or illustration (not since grade 3 nature studies anyway), but there is something really cool about showchicken’s truly bizarre, avian obsession. So, check out his photostream and see what I’m on about.

Eleanor Davis…

Eleanor Davis is an illustrator and comic book artist living and working in Athens, Georgia. Her style is very unique and lends itself to some pretty odd ideas. Having said that, there is something beautiful about the colour and composition of her images; they maybe strange but they are very attractive.

i love dust…

I love dust. Their vibrant eye candy and sense of humour is hard to ignore out there in the graphic wilderness; so I thought I might celebrate their series of quirky productions with a little link to their homepage for you to check out. Love those bikes.

only the brave…

A tiny little upload on Behance Network caught my attention today. Made for Diesel, The Keystone Design Union produced a small series illustrations on the theme ‘brave’. I haven’t any interest in the brand whatsoever, but the handmade, organic imagery in this series was really nice I thought.

comment: can you animate these please?…

I can’t tell you much about Los Angeles based illustrator Julian Callos…. except that I do agree with the comments left at the bottom of his BOOOOOOM page: His fluid stlye would look superb animated! Check out his blog for work in progress too.
