Hello.
My name is Sean Edward Whelan. I am an artist and illustrator living in Joetsu, Niigata, Japan.
I currently work part time on artistic projects while juggling various English teaching positions. I have a small studio above a bar in town and enjoy spending my weekends drawing and painting there. I also enjoy wandering around my city and peeking into places I shouldn’t. Most of my research is done in and around peoples gardens, and the countless, seemingly abandoned shrines and temples.
At present, I am working to produce a folio of drawings and paintings in hopes to travel home (to Australia) for an exhibition this year.
I have previously exhibited work in Melbourne and regularly keep in touch with artists from the underground and lowbrow art scene there. Their homepages and folios can be found in the links section. There is always some really cool stuff coming from those folks.
Keep an eye on the news page too, as I regularly post information about my current work in progress, upcoming events, and things of interest. Occasionally, Japanese art and language related things may come up, and I will do my best to find English pages were available.
For more information about me, more details about upcoming exhibitions, sales, illustration, commissioned artwork or figure sculpting, please contact me via email. Thank you for visiting my site. Look forward to hearing from you.
