Interview…
Recently I was lucky enough to be interviewed by the Niigata Nippo Newspaper at my studio for an article on young creative people in the Takada area. It was fantastic to be selected (from an already well established group of creatives) as an artist that draws inspiration from the Takada region. If you have been checking out my blog and gallery recently, you will have seen Teramachi and some of the shrine drawings I have been working on. They are based mostly on things I have seen in and around the area; the shrines, temples, showa-era signage and peculiar gardens and graveyards that back onto Takada’s main street…and will probably be featured in the article too. The newspaper is due out on Friday 23th of this month, complete with photos of me looking goofy in front of some of my work. The paper is available at most convenience stores in Niigata city, but only in some newsagents in Joetsu.

As a long time fan and owner of way too many 8bit cartridges, it was hard to resist the urge to post this. Amazing is what it is. All kudos to ghostpatrol for alerting me to the invasion, and Onemoreprod / Patrick Jean for being genius’.
Slow?..snails are slow…
If you have been tuning in recently, I apologise for the lack of news updates. It’s been a slow news week not too mention slow month in the studio. Last time I posted I was sketching some more temples. Well, there has been some development on that front in the last few days. And I can’t help myself, I have to get something up and show you what’s going on. As long as my right wrist remains it’s supple self, I should have this one done by middle of next week.

Amazing…and independent…
I don’t tend to spend a great deal of time on Youtube, but, I did find this little gem today while procrastinating with a cup of coffee. What’s even more surprising about this video (apart from it being just plain awesome) is that it was made at home. Kudos to this guy. You can see more of his work here. Nice little doosy in the background too.

今週末発行(3月21日）フリーペーパーgift裏表紙「graphic art gallery」にて、こちらのTERAMACHI 作品の一部が掲載されます。今回、このTERAMACHI の実寸サイズは A2 とかなりの大きさになります。昨年末くらいから書き始め、ペイント完成までに約３ヶ月かかりました。
上越高田の寺町を舞台に、そこからイマジネーションを膨らませ、人物は描かず、神社や灯籠、お地蔵様、瓦屋根、盆栽 からお祭りまで色々なディテールを織り交ぜながらありえないオリジナルの寺町が完成致しました！
是非細かい所までチェックしてみて下さいね！
TeraMachi (Town of Temples and Shrines)
Finally, after 2 months of (not so solid) work, Teramachi is finished! I have been really looking forward to finishing this one…even more so to moving onto something else (probably smaller, with less shrines, and very little detail). Hope you enjoy. The beautiful decay…
Jacob Magraw has created some stunning paintings and drawings, which have thoughtfully been collected here at butdoesitfloat. Especially like the bubble gum anatomy and candy colours. It’s great stuff.
